Can I install a rear bar by myself?

While installation difficulty may vary depending on the specific rear bar and vehicle model, some rear bars can be installed by experienced customers. However, for optimal fitment and safety, we recommend having your rear bar professionally installed by one of our partners.

What are rear bars used for?

Rear bars, also known as rear bumpers or rear protection bars, are designed to provide additional protection to the rear of your vehicle during off-road driving. They can also serve as mounting points for accessories such as jerry can holders or recovery points.

What is a rear wheel carrier?

A rear wheel carrier mounts to the rear bar and provides a secure and convenient way to carry a spare wheel. It helps free up space under the vehicle for a long-range tank as well as providing the ability to carry an extra tire.

Where can I get my bar work fitted?

Does X-bar have the same towing capacity as a standard towbar?

Yes, X-bar is designed to match the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle.

What is an X-Bar?

An X-Bar is designed to be the ultimate off-road tow bar. The key difference between a standard tow bar and an X-Bar is its ability to aid in the recovery of other vehicles.

The X-Bar is designed to be stronger than a traditional tow bar. It has heavy-duty end plates that attach to the vehicle chassis for added strength and a cross-bar which is also stronger.

The integrated rated recovery points have been engineered designed and tested to withstand loads in multiple directions. This compares to a traditional tow hitch box which is designed to tow weights in a linear direction only.

What are Rated Recovery Points?

These are attachment points mounted to a vehicle that has been load-tested to specific ratings. The outer recovery points on an X-Bar are rated to 9,000 pounds, the center-mounted recovery point is rated to 17,700 pounds.
The edges on the X-Bar’s recovery points are rounded to make them highly compatible with soft shackles.

What are the X-Bars Recovery Points Made Of?

X-bar recovery points are made from custom-forged 700-grade steel which ensures strength where it matters most.

What is the maximum clearance of the X-Bar?

The X-Bar generally sits higher on the vehicle than a standard towbar, up to 4” vertically, offering improved departure angles of 5 degrees compared with OEM and other aftermarket towbars. The difference in departure angle is different and specific for each vehicle.

What size hitch receiver does X-bar have?

The X-bar uses a standard 2”x 2” (50 x 50mm) square hitch receiver, the same as the vast majority of tow hitches.

What steel is the X-bar made from?

The X-bar is made from high-quality steel, it is then e-coated and powder-coated giving it extra protection when overlanding and off-roading.

When Do I Use Recovery Points

Recovery points should be used whenever you find your vehicle is stuck and in need of recovery. These points are not just there for show – they are a purpose-designed and rated rear-of-vehicle recovery system. Instead of relying on standard towbars or hitch boxes, which are not designed for extreme recovery loads, recovery points are purpose-built for this task.
Recovery points should be used whenever your off-road exploration hits a snag. Whether it's muddy tracks, steep slopes, or unexpected obstacles, having a reliable recovery system ensures you can navigate challenges with confidence and get back on the trail.

Why Can’t I Just Use A Mounted Recovery Hook?

This is an extremely dangerous way to attempt a vehicle recovery.

Tow hitch boxes are designed for towing and are tested only for that purpose. The different angles and forces created during a recovery (for example when using a snatch strap) could result in the hitch box, pin, or even the bar failing and becoming dislodged, with potentially fatal results.

Why Choose an X-Bar?

The X-Bar is not your average towbar. It's built tough for off-road action, offering improved departure angles, maximum tow ratings, and rear recovery points. If you're navigating challenging terrains, the X-Bar is your go-to solution.
